Manimals

By MICHELLE HUDSON

Directed by FLO O’MAHONY

Produced by Olivia Munk

FEBRUARY-MARCH 2021

Digital tour: Greenwich Theatre, Poplar Union, the Place Bedford, and Talk is free theatre

A playfully filthy online show, inspired by real-world dates. Live, with audience interaction and gaming, performed over Zoom.

About the show:

Michelle, a successful game designer, thinks she’s well on her way to winning the dating game when she starts going on dates with Manimals - men posing with exotic animals in their dating profiles. But when you try to win a partner at all costs, what do you lose? Critically acclaimed immersive game producer Michelle Hudson (Fire Hazard Games) embarks on her first solo performance piece in an exploration of dating, loneliness, and the struggle to connect in the digital age.

2021 Digital Tour:

Supported by Arts Council England and Canada Council for the Arts, recipient of Greenwich Theatre’s Get Connected micro commission, commissioned by multi-award winning international touring company Zoo Co, and partnered with award winning interactive media company Stitch Media.

Praise for Manimals:

A Younger Theatre ★★★★

The slick technical feats of Manimals, developed alongside creative technician Chloe Mashiter, are highly ambitious and yet absolutely spot-on....Asking viewers to re-evaluate from where and whom they seek to fulfill their animal desires, Manimals swipes some welcome organised chaos over the dreary screens of online dating.

From Page to Stage ★★★★

Tinder meets Black Mirror in this entertaining and innovative production, which will certainly make you think before swiping right again.

Reviews Hub ★★★★

...There’s a sincerity at the heart of Manimals, and an underlying adoration for spoken word, song and performance which goes beyond the obvious NSFW material and gags...Where Manimals excels is the synergy between performance, application, and audience interaction, vastly succeeding where others falter.
